Returning from Absence due to Illness.

Dear Clients,

During the past weeks I had to, with the help of my husband; cancel your appointments with little or no explanation. Not many of you know that I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 1. It is a fairly serious mental illness. If you are interested here is an article about Bipolar 1 disorder from Harvard Medical School: (http://www.health.harvard.edu/mental-health/bipolar-disorder)

I don’t remember many interactions during the period I was away mostly due to the mania and also the medications to treat it. I know there was some phone contact with some of you and I did not communicate very much because of the state I was in. I basically tried to defer most interactions having to do with the business to Ryan and he did his best but he was pretty stressed out just trying to take care of me.

I hope all of you were able to either go see one of the stylists I recommended or were able to wait and it wasn’t a major inconvenience.  For us here at the Caldeiro house, we took it slowly day by and day and considered it a victory that this time I did not need to be hospitalized. Ryan was able to take time off and supervise me through the worst of it. Some of my symptoms, if you are interested, are explained here: (http://psychcentral.com/lib/bipolar-disorder-with-psychotic-features/)

I have taken all my medication daily, as prescribed, since I was diagnosed in 2010. I think of myself as normal.  I believe the people who suffer with bipolar disorder often do so in silence (as I have typically done) rather than face the uncomfortable conversation about something that is, for me, just a small part of who I am. I think most of us know someone with mental illness without knowing they know them. Perhaps in this instance I am that person you didn’t know you know. There is a cultural stigma and a lot of misconception around mental illness and bipolar disorder in general. Usually, I prefer to let comments go rather than discuss my own experiences. I hope this episode does not change your opinions about me.

I’ve decided effective immediately; I will go back to work doing hair 2 days a week until I am back up to 100%. This will allow me to schedule in the people I cancelled on in the off days for now to get caught up. Instead of a set schedule I will have a floating schedule. At least one weekend a month I plan to work both Saturday and Sunday.  Instead of several short days I will just work a few longer days. Eventually I will move up to three days a week and two weekends a month. Going on to schedulicity as usual to book will tell you what is available for any given week. And yes, please email or txt if you really need to get in and there doesn’t seem to be a space. It will be much easier to accommodate now.

All in all, I have high hopes that things at Studio Three will spring back to life and we will get back to gorgeous hair as usual. Thank you for your understanding and your friendship over the years. I hope to see you all soon!

Cheers!

Lynn

Another Leave of Absence

Many of you know (my dear and cherished clients) I have been away from home for medical reasons for several weeks and am just getting back. With all that has gone on, I've been advised that I need to scale back on my work load and take more time for personal care. For the sake of my health, I am going to follow professional advice and take a step back from work for a while. I just wanted to check in with you all (clients) and let you know where I stand.

I am not going to be making any of my appointments scheduled thru the beginning of September. If you are a long time client, you should have my direct email address and please do feel free to contact me because I may be able to work something out.

I will be contacting E*Clips today or tomorrow about rescheduling/distributing appointments to other stylists at the salon etc.

Well wishes are always welcome and appreciated and I will be checking my personal email frequently now that I am home. For others - I can receive emails on my phone if you send it to lcaldeiro@gmail.com. Please note, no appointments will be scheduled thru that email address.

Thank you so much for understanding.

Update.

First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you for being such wonderful clients over the years. I also want to apologize for any inconvenience with scheduling the coming months may pose.

My family situation is such that I will need to be in California most of my free time. I have my schedule open for on-line booking but have had some calls because the next open appointments may be a few weeks out. I will not be able to change this at this time but if you are in dire hair straights, please feel free to book with Josephine Morales, Lamberto Laggio and Jim Jennings. Jim uses Keune color and has access to all my formulas. Please call the salon at (206) 322-9280 if you need to get in more quickly than my current availability will allow. My colleagues are all wonderful and talented stylists who I feel lucky to have the privilege to work with.

Also, I want to say to all of you that I have appreciated your loyalty and regard for me beyond measure, but none of you should have any reservation whatsoever should you feel the need to go see someone else! Whether you go to someone at e*clips or elsewhere I will absolutely not be upset or offended and I hope you do not feel awkward about it. Should you wish to come back to me at a later date when my schedule is open again - please don't hesitate! I will never make you feel guilty for needing your hair done when I was/am unavailable. (I only mention this because I have had a few apologetic emails and I don't want anyone to feel the need to apologize!!) As always, I just want you to love your hair!

In addition, I will not be taking any new clients over the phone until my personal situation resolves. However, on-line booking is still available for first time clients.

Thanks to all for your kind wishes and support.
I appreciate you and all you do and have done for me.

Highest regards and in humble respect,
Lynn Caldeiro

Leave of Absence..

Many of you know that my mom is ill.

She has taken a turn for the worse and was admitted to the hospital this morning.

I will be leaving for California tomorrow evening - I plan to be gone thru Sunday January 17th. The receptionist will be calling my appointments to reschedule next weeks appointments for after I return.

Best wishes to all and I will see you when I get back.

Recovering

Well, it's time to report that I have a problem and ignoring it has not made it go away (as I had hoped it would). For a few months I have been having neck and shoulder pain. I have been trying to use better posture etc.

Then I started to have some pain in my left arm/hand. I tried switching my blowdry hand and paying attention to my wrist.

Then my fingers started going a bit numb. I went to a massage therapist, then I went back to yoga and a massage therapist.

Now my fingers (thumb, index and middle) are numb and tingly, my arm above and below the elbow are in pain and my neck is in pain. I went to the doctor. They took x-rays and they think it has something to do with my neck. I have a perscription for a muscle relaxer and alieve (I have been taking ibuprophen the whole time and it's not helping anymore).

So, to make a long story short (too late) - I will not be working extra hours at all until this clears up. I am still working what is already scheduled, but I will be focusing on recovering from what ever this is until I am back to 100%. I will keep you abreast of my progress. I am off back to the couch, an ice pack and some West Wing!

The best way to figure out when you can get in is to use the online scheduling (see website) because I have opened my hours up after what I am expecting will be my recovery (a few weeks) and closed them off to any new appointments until then. Like I said, if you already have a scheduled appointment I will see you then!

Gone for a while..

Hi All! Sorry it's been a while since I last posted, it's not for lack of stuff going on that's for sure! Anyway, I'll make this short and sweet..

I have to leave for a week starting tomorrow. For those familiar with My Other Blog you know that I am going to California to help with a family situation. When I get back I am changing my hours around, I am actually working the same amount of hours, but working fewer days in a row.. I need to have some days off to allow me to leave sometimes w/out interrupting my client schedule the way this trip is.. Anyway, when I come back my schedule will be as follows:

Wednesdays Noon to 9pm
Thursdays Noon to 9pm
Fridays 9am to 5pm
Saturdays 8am to 2pm

As always, I will accomodate hair emergencies if at all possible (email me directly please or leave a message with the receptionist to have me call you. The receptionist has no control over my hours so please don't get upset, I WILL contact you if you leave a message for me to do so..) but it is more important than ever to pre-book your next appointment, it's getting harder and harder to get people in within two weeks and I don't want to lose anyone in the shuffle so please please please pre-book! Also, if you have an appointment you won't be able to keep, please call as soon as you can to let me know so we can fit someone else in that time slot.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall!

Until November...
